From September 1 to 11, the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Belgium and Luxembourg held the third edition of the training programme “Introduction to the Luxembourg Financial Market”, with the aim of providing participants with the skills necessary to work in the financial sector of the Grand Duchy.

During the two-week course, participants were able to deepen their understanding of the fundamental principles of finance, expanding their previous knowledge as graduates in Economics, Finance, Business Administration and Management, International Relations, Financial Markets or Law with an economic specialisation.

The main added value of the programme lies in its emphasis on adapting these contents to the framework of the Luxembourg industry. To this end, the Chamber prepared an agenda of masterclasses delivered by professional experts from renowned companies in the sector, such as Anidris Academy, Bank Julius Baer, CMS Luxembourg, Deloitte Luxembourg, DLA Piper Luxembourg, EY Luxembourg, Luxembourg for Finance, PwC Luxembourg and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

A comprehensive programme

The first session of the programme took place on September 1, where Álvaro Gómez Herranz, Director at PwC Luxembourg, together with Manel Lluis Cerma, Manager, provided a comprehensive introduction to audit processes, followed by a session on transfer pricing led by Maria Cogliati, Manager.

On Wednesday, September 2, participants visited the European Investment Bank, where they attended a general presentation on the institution’s role and activities, followed by a talk on the different professional opportunities within the institution.

Subsequently, Jonathan Westhead, Head of Communications at Luxembourg for Finance, explained the competitiveness of European financial services and the evolution of the Luxembourg financial centre.

On Thursday, September 3, Álvaro Laorden, Member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, welcomed the participants by discussing practical aspects of life in Luxembourg and delivered a class on the keys to effective communication.

In the afternoon, Jordi Catalá Contreras, Executive Director of Wealth Management Iberia at Bank Julius Baer, delivered a session on wealth management and private banking.

The first week of the course concluded on Friday, September 4, at Deloitte Luxembourg with a session dedicated to the investment fund market, delivered by Amalia Tejero Díez, Senior Consultant.

First-class trainers

The training resumed on Monday, September 7, at DLA Piper, where Maxime de Latour, Senior Associate, and Gonzalo Burgaleta Aza, Legal Advisor, delivered a session on corporate governance in Luxembourg, covering legal structures, regulated activities, corporate governance bodies and key tax risks.

On Tuesday, September 8, the programme focused on securitisation, with a session at CMS Luxembourg delivered by Alejandro Domínguez Becerra, Partner, and Stamatina Stylianopoulou, Managing Associate.

On Wednesday, September 9, the students returned to PwC Luxembourg for an introductory session on International Tax with Rafael Jose Schmidt, Director. In the afternoon, they delved deeper into tax regulation and the role of the CSSF with Robin Bernard, Director; Justine Morosini, Manager; Nina Horschler, Manager; and Hugo Gil, Manager.

The session on Thursday, September 10, began with Javier Costales, coach at Anidris Academy, who guided the students through a Career Compass session, identifying their strengths and guiding them towards career decisions.

The 2026 edition concluded on Friday, September 11, at EY Luxembourg with a day focused on the different types of investment funds, delivered by Viktoria Mohr, Manager; Luis Chamorro, Partner; Diego Novo, Antonio Martínez Valdez, Valuation Analyst; Juan Pedro Hidalgo, senior at Real Estate Valuation; and Javier Pino Rider, Senior Valuation Analyst.

First work experience in Luxembourg

After the training course, and having successfully completed the corresponding selection processes, the young graduates will be offered a paid contract for a minimum duration of six months with one of the companies collaborating with the programme, allowing them to put into practice what they learned during the course and gain their first work experience in the sector.

At the close of the third edition, and due to the high level of satisfaction among both participants and collaborating companies, the Chamber is taking the first steps towards organizing a fourth edition in 2027.
