Next Tuesday 15th September, from 12.30 to 14.30, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg is organising a luncheon-debate in the framework of its Business Circle tribune with the participation of Bernd Biervert, Head of Cabinet of Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security.

16/09 Spain–Belgium Security and Defence Business Exchange

The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, in collaboration with Agoria (BSDI), is organising a speed networking event entitled “Spain-Belgium Business Meeting for the Security and Defence Industry” on Wednesday 16 September, from 10.00 to 13.15, which will take place at Agoria’s offices in Diegem (Amber Building, Hermeslaan 7, 1831).

Agoria BSDI is the cluster that gather Belgian companies providing technological solutions or services for military use – from rugged materials and mechatronics to digital systems for monitoring, communication and intervention.

The event aims to bring together a select group of Spanish and Belgian firms operating in the security and defence sector, with the aim of fostering high-value business relationships. To ensure the event’s direct focus, bilateral meetings are reserved exclusively for internal representatives and staff of the participating security and defence companies.

The programme will consist of one-to-one meetings lasting between 7 and 10 minutes, allowing participants to network with representatives from Belgian companies in the security and defence industry.

09/09 Onsite conference “Entrepreneurship in Luxembourg: key considerations, common mistakes and practical advice”

On Wednesday 9 September 2026, from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, in collaboration with Planinlux, is organising a conference on “Entrepreneurship in Luxembourg: key considerations, common mistakes and practical advice”, which will take place at the Chambre de Métiers (2, Circuit de la Foire Internationale L-1347 Luxembourg).

This conference is primarily aimed at people interested in starting a business in Luxembourg, as well as entrepreneurs and professionals who wish to gain a practical understanding of the main aspects to consider when setting up and developing a business in the Grand Duchy.

The event will feature Maria Catalán, founder and Managing Director of Planinlux, who will share practical recommendations based on her experience supporting entrepreneurs and companies in Luxembourg.

The conference will take a practical approach, offering real-life examples to help attendees avoid common pitfalls and make better decisions from the outset of their project.

For its part, the Chamber will present its entrepreneurship support programmes, EmprendeBeLux and the European Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) programme.

What services does the Les Démons studio offer?

Les Démons is a professional tattoo studio located in the Ixelles neighborhood of Brussels, conceived as a space for contemporary artistic creation. We promote cultural projects and will soon be inaugurating our art gallery with an exhibition dedicated to Salvador Dalí.

Do you specialize in any specific style when creating original tattoo designs?

I believe that tattooing is an artistic medium in constant evolution and that stylistic diversity is key to offering a high-quality service. Each design is developed individually, balancing the client’s idea with the artist’s creative vision, thus guaranteeing a unique result.

How did you decide to start your own business and open your own studio? Is Brussels an interesting city for that?

I settled in Brussels in 2023, and a year later, I decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship. This process allowed me to adapt to the cultural environment and find an opportunity to develop a project with a clearly defined identity. Brussels is a stimulating city from a creative standpoint due to its cultural diversity and its strong artistic tradition.

Recently, you decided to become a member of the Chamber. What led to this decision and what do you hope to gain from your membership?

The Chamber has been a source of support and guidance during my professional integration process in Brussels. I am grateful for all the information received and the approachability of the team. Through this membership, I hope to continue learning and sharing experiences, increase the visibility of creative entrepreneurship, inspire other professionals interested in developing their business in an international environment. 25–26/06 Day of Spain celebration in Luxembourg

The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Luxembourg, is celebrating Spain Day on 25 and 26 June with two exclusive events designed to promote Spanish culture and cuisine in the Grand Duchy and to strengthen ties between the two countries.

DAY 1 | Exclusive concert and Spanish cocktail experience

The celebrations will begin on the afternoon of Thursday 25th June at 7.00 pm at the Philharmonie (1 Pl. de l’Europe, 1499) with a unique concert by one of the most acclaimed musicians of his generation, the pianist Juan Pérez Floristán. Winner of the Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition (2015) and the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv (2021), Floristán combines a refined technique with great artistic sensitivity. This will be followed by a cocktail reception at the Hotel Meliá Luxembourg (1 Park Drai Eechelen, 1499), where Spanish cuisine will be showcased.

DAY 2 | Gala dinner with Michelin star awarded chefs

The following day, Friday 26th June, from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm, Chef Áxel Smyth of the Michelin-starred Simpar restaurant will treat guests to an exclusive gala dinner at the INNSiDE by Meliá Luxembourg Hotel (12 Rue Henri M. Schnadt, 2530), featuring a tasting menu created especially for the occasion. Chef Áxel Smyth’s cuisine has a strong Galician influence, centred on respect for local and market produce, which led him to earn a Michelin star in 2025 and a Repsol Guide Sun in 2024. The desserts will also be created by chef Claudia Merchán, recognised as one of Spain’s finest pastry chefs, trained at the Basque Culinary Centre in San Sebastián and a guest chef on MasterChef Ecuador. The menu will be available shortly. The dress code will be Elegant Attire: men, suit and tie; ladies, long dress.

Journalist Lewis Crofts shares his analysis on current competition policy regulations

On Monday 18 May, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg organised a breakfast debate as part of its Competencia España working group and its Círculo de Negocios forum, featuring Lewis Crofts, editor-in-chief of MLex, a publication specialising in legal and regulatory affairs. Mr Crofts shared his analysis of current regulation and decision-making within the European Commission on competition matters.

The event began with an introduction to Crofts by the president of Competencia España, Cecilio Madero, who thanked the journalist for his willingness to share his insights and highlighted his long career at the specialist publication MLex. Crofts currently oversees the publication’s editorial output as editor-in-chief, having previously served as managing editor for seven years.

In his speech, Crofts noted that, after twenty years’ experience as a journalist in Brussels, competition policy has become “difficult in last couple of years”, after a “golden age”. In his view, this field is currently under more “pressure” than ever, and he assessed that this is a time of great difficulty for antitrust policy.

In his view, this situation is due to external pressure from other geopolitical actors, which is forcing Europe to accelerate its industrial policy, as well as to technological advances that have changed the approach to legislation and decision-making in the field of competition.

In this regard, he shared his assessment of the content of the draft of the new guidelines established by the European Commission on competition, which combines the guidelines for a ‘new Europe’ with the concerns of previous years and whose impact, he believed, will become apparent when one of the Member States applies it in an agreement with a major sector.

Those attending the meeting then had the opportunity to share their views and raise questions relating to technology policy, the quality of the new rules in the new scenarios outlined, or the need for change in the context of these, amongst other topics.

The Chamber has convened its 2026 Ordinary General Assembly for 9 June

The Chamber’s Ordinary General Assembly will be held on 9th June. It will take place at 18:30 at the Chamber’s premises (Avenue des Arts 1, 9^th floor, 1210 Brussels). The General Assembly is the statutory framework that enables members to participate, personally, in the life of our entity.

The presentation of candidatures, whether renewals or new appointments, for members of the Board of Directors, must be notified to the Secretary General of the Chamber in writing signed before 26^th May (secretariageneral@e-camara.com) and must comply with the conditions set out in article 22 of the statutes of the Chamber.

It is hereby stated that, as from the publication of this notice of meeting, the members are entitled to consult and obtain at the registered office of the Chamber the documents subject to deliberation at this meeting and in particular, the Annual Accounts and Management Report for the financial year 2025 and the certifications of the Annual Accounts issued by the Auditor.

The General Assembly may be attended by members who are up to date with their membership fees five days prior to the General Assembly and who are registered on the official list of members. Members who are unable to attend the General Assembly may be represented by another member present. To do so, the member must send by e-mail to the attention of the Secretary General, a signed power of attorney, in which he/she grants his/her representation to another member, at least two working days before the date of the Assembly.

Online training on “Advocacy in the European Union: how to kickstart your campaign” held

On the 6^th and 7^th of May, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg organised an online training on “Advocacy in the European Union: how to kickstart your campaign”, given by our EmprendeBelux member Sebastián Rodríguez Pérez, Campaign Consultant and author of the european campaign playbook.

In this training, professionals tasked with branding, public affairs, marketing communications, or community engagement learned to identify the core messages for their organizations, craft convincing stories and launch integrated campaigns to achieve their goals.

This was a hands-on workshop in which participants collaborated and worked towards creating a “Communications Plan” for their respective organisations by the end of the training.

Nicolas Lyrakides points at a well-connected European Union as a transport priority for the Cypriot Presidency of the EU

Cyprus’s rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union comes to an end this June and, to review and explain the work carried out in the field of transport over recent months, the Chamber hosted a meeting on 7 May with Nicolas Lyrakides, Counsellor for Transport and Communications at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the European Union. In his presentation, Mr Lyrakides outlined the priorities set by the Presidency and the progress made in these areas, with one of the main objectives being to achieve reliable transport and good connections between EU Member States.

The breakfast debate began with a brief introduction by the Chamber’s Secretary General, Marta González Benguria, who framed the event as part of the Chamber’s series of breakfast debates aimed at monitoring the presidencies of the Council of the EU.

The minister then highlighted passenger rights, efforts to improve competitiveness and streamline transport, as well as investment in connectivity, as some of the key priorities on which the presidency has been working.

During his speech, the speaker also noted that these actions require companies in the sector to work towards combating the fragmentation of strategic decisions among member states, as well as tackling the fuel crisis collectively, for example. In conclusion, he referred to the Presidency’s commitment to a pragmatic and balanced approach to achieving greater European competitiveness through collaboration.

Finally, attendees had the opportunity to share perspectives and raise questions regarding passenger rights and renewable fuels, amongst other topics, with Nicolas Lyrakides, who expressed his appreciation for the lively discussion generated during the Q&A session.
