Secretary of State Santano explains the Government’s commitment to an ‘intermodal and sustainable’ Transport model
This Monday, 11th March, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium held a new lunch-debate in the framework of its ‘Business Circle’ platform, in which the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, spoke about “A European policy for sustainable and competitive mobility: challenges and opportunities”.
After the welcome cocktail, the President of the Chamber, Pablo López-Álvarez, opened the lunch by highlighting the importance of Transport policies at a time when Trump’s tariff policies are interfering in global trade chains.
This was followed by a brief speech by Roland Cracco, CEO of Interparking, sponsor of the event.
Paradigm shift
As for the main speech, Santano underlined the priorities of the current Ministry, assuring that it is committed to an “intermodal and sustainable” mobility policy. Thus, the Secretary of State assured that the paradigm is changing to move ‘from prioritising infrastructures to prioritising people’.
“Spain has one of the best-connected transport systems in the world, thanks to the enormous investment made in recent decades”, explained the speaker. A clear example of this is that Spain is the second country in the world, after China, with more kilometres of high-speed railways.
Besides, Santano reviewed the Government’s objectives in terms of Transport, which include the decarbonisation of the sector, the incorporation of new technologies and the strengthening of the suburban transport network, giving priority to the quality of the service.
The presentation was followed by an extensive round of questions and answers in which questions on land transport (road and rail), shipping and air transport were discussed.
