Carmen Romero highlights in the Chamber NATO’s political priorities
Strengthening NATO, supporting Ukraine and bolstering cooperation with like-minded partners: these are the three political priorities highlighted by NATO Director of Security Policy, Carmen Romero, at the event held at the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg on Wednesday 6 May, sponsored by Grupo Indra and part of the “Business Circle” forum.
The breakfast debate began with an introduction to the speaker by the Chamber’s Vice-President for Belgium, Abelardo García, who highlighted Carmen Romero’s track record in international security affairs. David Luengo, Head of the Indra Group’s Brussels office, then thanked the speaker for attending and emphasised not only her career but also her expertise in security analysis over the years.
Romero shared with those attending the event the main strategic lines on security currently being pursued by the Atlantic Alliance in a context of international conflicts. In this regard, she explained that the defence industry is an integral part of the Alliance in supporting its military capabilities.
NATO Director of Security Policy thus highlighted the Alliance’s role as an anchor of stability, through its aim of preventing conflicts and safeguarding peace; a military priority which, she explained, has remained unchanged since its foundation.
Finally, attendees asked questions regarding Spain’s role in NATO, relations with the administration of US President Donald Trump, and deterrence of Russia, amongst other topics. The event concluded with a networking session to strengthen commercial ties between companies in the sector and institutions.
