Cecilio Madero Villarejo is appointed President of Competencia España
Cecilio Madero Villarejo, a former senior official at the European Commission with a long and distinguished career in its Directorate-General for Competition, will take up the presidency of the Competition Commission of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, Competencia España, on 1 December
Competencia España seeks to serve as a meeting point and forum for dialogue between the Chamber’s member companies and the competition authorities, both national and European, as well as to create a platform for debate and exchange between professionals in this field, from both the public and private sectors.
“Throughout my years at the European Commission, I have seen first-hand the dynamism and good work of the Chamber, not only in promoting trade and investment at the bilateral level, but also as a meeting point between officials and regulators on the one hand and the private sector on the other. I believe that fostering this dialogue is essential, now more than ever, and that is why I have accepted the Chamber’s kind proposal without hesitation. These are times when European integration needs new impetus, and Competencia España certainly has a role to play in this endeavour,” said Cecilio Madero after his recent appointment.
‘The Chamber is delighted and honoured that Cecilio has agreed to lead the work of this Commission. Very few professionals have his experience and vision, and he is the best representative of the leadership of Spanish civil servants and professionals in the field of competition law and policy in Europe over the last three decades,’ said the President of the Chamber, Pablo Lopez-Alvarez.
Cecilio Madero takes over from Miguel Troncoso, managing partner of Gómez-Acebo & Pombo in Brussels, who has held the presidency for the last five years.
