FCC Construcción has more than 120 years of experience in all areas of engineering and construction. Since then, how has the company evolved to become a benchmark in the execution of civil works?

The company has more than 120 years of experience in the design and execution of all types of infrastructures. We currently operate in more than 20 countries around the world. We are the third largest construction company in Spain, the fifteenth largest in Europe and we are among the thirty-fifth largest construction companies in the world. Our company has evolved to become an international company with a strong commitment to the local communities in which we operate, a pioneer in the development of resilient and sustainable infrastructure projects and the establishment of a new dialogue with the environment. We are a company specialised in transport and urban mobility infrastructure projects: underground, motorways, high-speed railway networks, urban railway and freight transport projects, hydraulic projects, non-residential building projects (prisons, sports, healthcare and cultural infrastructures, etc.). We are a company linked to the citizens.

FCC Construcción is a benchmark company for its contribution to the development of sustainable construction at a national and international level. How is this challenge reflected in the company’s day-to-day work? What are the strategies used to face these global challenges?

We are a pioneering company in terms of sustainability in the infrastructure sector. We were the first construction company to certify our projects under the zero-waste seal; the first construction company worldwide to join the sustainable finance group of the United Nations Global Compact; the first company to quantify and certify its Greenhouse Gas emissions. We currently have quantified 100% of our GHG emissions…. In short, we believe in the need to protect our environment, implement the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda as a cross-cutting element of the company and we believe in the importance of minimising the impact of our activities and enhancing their benefits for the local community and the environment. We are committed to the development of a circular economy in our projects.

We address global challenges through the implementation of local policies in the countries in which we operate. We act locally to achieve transversal objectives.

In October 2018, FCC won the concession contract for the new Haren megaprison, close to Zaventem airport (Belgium). This construction has been classified by the Belgian government as the largest infrastructure under construction in the country. What does this project mean for the company? What are your expansion prospects in this country?

It is our first infrastructure in the country, and it is undoubtedly a real success story. Our intention is to continue to invest in the development of our activity in Belgium, collaborating with the local Belgian market and adding knowledge and activity with the different elements of the market. Our intention is to continue to invest in developing our activity in Belgium, collaborating with the local Belgian market, and adding knowledge and activities with the different factors in the market. We are an international company that is linked to Belgium for the development of its infrastructures, which aim to improve the quality of life of the population.

FCC Construcción has been named Company of the Year 2021 by the Chamber of Commerce. What does this award mean for the company?

It is a matter of satisfaction and a motivation to continue developing our activity based on pillars such as innovation, sustainability, and the resolution of the different technical challenges we face in the different infrastructures we build. This award is a incentive to continue growing and adding activities in Belgium, it reflects a job well done.
