Launch of the III Edition of the Entrepreneur’s Guidebook in Luxembourg

In the framework of the EmprendeBelux programme, the Chamber has just published an updated version of the Entrepreneur’s Guidebook in Luxembourg. The reference publication in Spanish for anyone interested in starting a business in the Grand Duchy, can be downloaded for free and is available in digital format via the EmprendeBelux portal.

This updated version includes a section of testimonials and detailed information on the most common questions asked by future entrepreneurs, and expands the content of each of the different stages required to start a business (authorisation of establishment, administrative procedures, etc). There is also a section dedicated to company taxation, including a summary of the main taxes applicable in Luxembourg. Finally, the guide includes a directory of local business support organisations.

The Delegation of the Chamber in Luxembourg has actively collaborated during the last year with Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs in their business incorporation processes in Luxembourg. With this III Edition, the Chamber aims to continue providing future entrepreneurs with comprehensive support in the implementation of their business projects in the country.

Meeting of the Forums Committee

On September 20th, the second meeting of the year of the Forums Committee, a working group whose task is to propose, organise and monitor the events organised by the Chamber, was organised telematically.

During the meeting, which was chaired by Pablo López Álvarez (FTI Consulting), a balance of the last events organised by the “business circle” platform was made, as well as new initiatives to be developed in the coming months were proposed, both at local level and with the institutions of the European Union. They also discussed the call for the Company of the Year Award 2021, which is currently open, and the upcoming training on “Public Affairs Strategies and dialogue with European institutions”.

About the Chamber’s Committees

The Committees are made up by some of the members, as well as by the person in charge of the area in question in the Chamber.

These working groups have numerous functions: in-depth studies of proposals, problems, projects, and activities. Through them, the members influence the day-to-day life of the Chamber in order to better adapt the Chamber’s activities to the needs of the members.

At any time, a member can ask the President of a Committee to join it or request the Secretary General to create a new group.

Introduction to the new European funding program in digitalisation – Good Practices in Spain and in Belgium

On September 22nd, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg organised the conference “Introduction to the new European funding program in digitalisation – Good Practices in Spain and in Belgium”, in collaboration with BECI (Chambre de Commerce et Union des Enterprises de Bruxelles) and EEN (Enterprise Europe Network). The event was attended by companies specialised in EU-funded digitisation projects as well as public bodies and regional delegations.

The face-to-face event, which took place at the Welkin & Meraki coworking space in Brussels, started with the welcome words from the Secretary General of the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, Marta González, and the Internationalisation Director of BECI, Jean-Philippe Mergen.

The first speaker was Anne-Marie Sassen, Head of Unit at DG CONNECT. During her speech, she presented the objectives and structure of the Digital Europe Programme, highlighting the importance of all companies in the European Union adapting to technological transformation to cope with the current economic situation and to be globally competitive.

Subsequently, Susana Garayoa, Senior Consultant at Zabala Innovation Consulting, explained how this Spanish consultancy firm supports companies in their digitalisation process and in their participation in European funding projects. She took the opportunity to present the new smart platform Kaila, which allows users to search for information on European funding opportunities for digitisation projects, among other things.

Later, Marion Perrin and Benjamin Carnec – both from hub.brussels – took part as national contact points. They presented, on the one hand, the service they offer through their organisations to local participants of the Horizon Europe programme, one of the European Union’s main programmes for research and innovation. Additionally, they presented the Enterprise Europe Network, a global support network for small and medium-sized enterprises with international ambitions, thanks to the one they help these companies to introduce their innovations in new markets.

Then, María Aguilar de Tena, Solutions Project Leader at everis, presented the strategy of this technology consultancy firm within the framework of the programme and shared how they are supporting the European Commission in its development.

To conclude the event, Noelia Sánchez, Project Manager at the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, presented to the attendees the MobiliseSME programme, co-financed by the European Commission and coordinated by the Chamber itself. This pilot mobility programme for the staff of European SMEs supports the internationalisation of Belgian and Spanish companies in the digital sector through the development of mutual beneficial transnational collaborations.

Luxembourg’s Management Committee Meeting

On September 7th, the Luxembourg´s Management Committee met virtually.

The Vice President of the Chamber, Joseba Arriortua, started the meeting by informing the rest of the members of the Committee about the changes in the Board of Directors of the Chamber after the last AGO held in June in Brussels. Then, he welcomed Antonio Corpas, CEO of OneLife, who had the opportunity to introduce himself to the other members of the Committee.

Afterwards, the balance of new members for the Luxembourg Delegation was presented and information was given on the activities to be developed in the upcoming months and future projects.

Among the projects of the Luxembourg Delegation, the activity of the Spanish Financial Forum (SFF) was highlighted. The members of the Management Committee had the opportunity to comment on and discuss upcoming initiatives proposed by this Working Committee.

Meeting of the Board of Directors

On September 13th, the Board of Directors of the Chamber held a telematic meeting.

During the meeting, chaired by the President Pablo López-Álvarez, it was discussed the content of the next multiannual strategic plan to be developed by the Chamber. In addition, the different European programmes managed by the institution and the working committees of the Spanish Financial Forum and Competencia España were reviewed.

Finally, the upcoming scheduled events were detailed and the rules for the call of the VII Edition of the Company of the Year Award 2021 were approved.

The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg announces the VII Edition of the Company of the Year Award

The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg has opened the call for nominations for its Company of the Year Award 2021, which recognises the experience, demonstration of leadership and competitiveness of companies with commercial activity in Belgium and/or Luxembourg maintaining a business relationship with Spain.

In 2013, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Chamber, the Board of Directors decided to create this award to contribute annually to the promotion of Spanish trade and business development in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Previous awardees include Indra, Orona and Grupo Social ONCE.

The deadline for applications is 15 October 2021 at 12:00 (Brussels). The jury will announce the award-winning company through the Chamber´s official website within a maximum period of one month.
