The Chamber receives a delegation of agri-food enterprises from Teruel

Nine agri-food enterprises, together with the Chamber of Commerce and the Provincial Council of Teruel, travelled to Brussels last week, from 25 to 27 September, in order to promote and sell their products on the Belgian market.

The companies participating in this project are producers of olive oil, peaches, ham, and cold meat, saffron, cava, wine, cheese, and truffles. During the three-day trip they visited different gourmet shops: Freshmed, Great Market and Rob The Gourmets’ Market. In these visits, they were able to meet the managers and sales directors, who explained the current situation of their products and competitors, while the enterprises presented their products, with the aim of entering this market in the near future.

In addition to the gourmet supermarket visits, they had the opportunity to attend the Taste of Tavola fair in Kortrijk. There, they were welcomed by JOKA, one of the leading importers and distributors of gourmet products. After exploring the fair, a showcooking was held, led by Hispania Brussels chef Adrián Mancheño, who prepared various tapas that the distributors in attendance had the opportunity to taste.

To complete their stay in the European capital, they attended meetings with representatives of different institutions, to whom they expressed their problems and needs: Miguel Galante from the Office of the Government of Aragon to the European Union; Pedro Yenes, coordinating advisor for Agriculture in the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union; Pilar Ruiz, director of the delegation of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce to the European Union; and Pablo Arias and Gabriel Mato, two MEPs who received them in the European Parliament.

The Chamber of Commerce and the Brussels arts centre iMAL agree to collaborate to promote the Spain Brand

On 11 October, iMAL, the Art Centre for Digital Cultures and Technology in Brussels, and the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium signed a collaboration agreement.

The aim of the agreement is, on one hand, to raise awareness of Spanish artists, creators and creative industries in Belgium and, on the other hand, to serve as a platform for dissemination to other countries through the different European networks to which both organisations belong.

Likewise, the members of the Chamber will be able to benefit from free tickets for the centre’s exhibitions, discounts for the participation in workshops and festivals, and the rental of spaces for events.

In addition, during the meeting, the general director, Lucía García, and the artistic director, Ana Ascencio, gave a guided tour of iMAL’s facilities to the President of the Chamber and the general secretary, who were able to see its state-of-the-art FabLab workshop, and learn first-hand about the new project of the Spanish digital artist Félix Luque.

27th Networking Meeting of Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs

From the 18th to the 21st of October took place the 27th edition of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Network Meeting. The meeting, in online format, offered the different consortiums participating in the programme the opportunity to learn about the future of the EYE programme and network online with different intermediary organisations.

During the first day, different representatives from the European Commission (EC) presented how the program has recovered from the crisis and the coming actions. On the second day, different workshops were organised to improve the communication on social networks and the quality of the exchanges.

On the last day, the European Commission, EISMEA and the Support Office addressed the plenary and provided conclusions for the event.

The Erasmus for young entrepreneurs, a great help for the HORECA sector

Anke De Mulder and Sebastian Malieni are two entrepreneurs who started collaborating through the Erasmus program for young entrepreneurs in July 2020. On that date, the first Covid wave had already passed and the HORECA sector had the possibility to reopen in Belgium. However, a few months later, bars and restaurants were closed agaiblankn, and they had to adapt their activities to this new situation

Anke De Mulder registered in the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program with the Chamber in May of the same year. She was looking forward to sharing her experiences and knowledge with the new generations of young entrepreneurs and explore possibilities to enlarge her professional network at the European level.

When we first interviewed her, she told us about her vegetarian restaurant, Shyam, located in Brussels and the new services and products that she was trying to develop. A few weeks later, thanks to the platform of the program, she got in contact with Sebastian Malieni, an enthusiast new entrepreneur from Spain interested in learning by doing about HORECA company managementHe told us that his interest was to go extend his knowledge of the food business.

A few months after the start of their exchange, the sanitary situation changed. Anke had to adapt her business to the new situation, and she and Sebastian had to also modify the activities they had planned to develop. Despite this setback, they were very motivated to continue collaborating. They worked exclusively for takaway orders, behind closed doors, and complying with all the necessary regulations.

“Our office is a kitchen, andon a normal day, of course, we cook, but we also focus on organizational issues, orders, procedures, etc.” Additionally, they told us that they did not see the need to stop collaborating. It is precisely at this time that he (Sebastian) is being of great help”, Anke told us.

According to Sebastian, “for better or for worse, it has been a great experience for me to participate in the exchange in times of pandemic, since I have learned how to overcome complicated situations in the best possible way.”

Now that the exchange is over, neither of them sees an end to their relationship. They will stay in touch and Sebastian confirmed to us that since his next step is to open his own business, he will continue to be in contact with Anke in case he needs any advice.
